Sharp, May 31st, 2012
Developed within the NGCPV project by Japan’s SHARP, achieves world record for PV energy conversion, 43.5% efficiency at 306 suns. This conversion efficiency record has been confirmed by NGCPV participant, Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy (one of the several organizatiosn around the world that officially certifies energy conversion efficiency measurementsin solar cells) in April 2012.
With this champion cell SHARP equals the presently established record by the Silicon Valley company Solar Junction, in April 2011, at 400 suns, which was confirmed by the US’ National Renewable Energy Labs (NREL).
SHARP’s PV cell is a InGaP/GaAs/InGaAs inverted triple junction cell, with reduced series resistance.
